The original blue print of the St. Louis Papal Altar, created by Catholic Supply's
liturgical designer, Mr. Angelo
Gherardi. The design features a main stage (60 feet across and 40 feet deep) and two
side stages (one foot lower) for the 200 bishops (35' x 40'). A 45 foot replica of
the St. Louis Arch was designed for the center with a suspended 48 foot wooden cross
hanging from the rafters above. Mr. Gherardi also designed the entire Altar Setting-
including the Pope's chair, Altar, and Pulpit. |

Angie Stutte worked late into the night on Tuesday helping her father, Dan Stutte
prepare the Altar for Wednesday morning's mass service. The Altar was assembled in less
than 30 hours prior to the start of the mass. |

The rest of the Stutte family, Lara shown here, worked around the clock pressing
the 1,500 vestments worn at Wednesday's mass. The vestments were designed for this event
and feature the Archdiocesan Cross. They were made in Holland, by Stadelmaier and
distributed through Catholic Supply. |

Dan and Mary Stutte were pleased to have been invited to Wednesday evening's prayer
service at the Basilica. Here they stand before the doors that the Pope sealed that
evening. The doors will reopen at Christmas 1999. |
