Clerical Collars
and Collarettes
Clerical collars probably began to be worn from
about the 8th century, to distinguish priests from the public who wore the street clothes. Religious orders
adopted over time their various monastic habits. Cleric collars were adapted from the
high, detachable collars of the middle ages. Over the centuries, the collar has been
decreed to be a symbol of poverty, dignity, and protection. Nearly all Christian
denominations have followed the Catholic tradition of wearing some form of clerical
collar.

Collarettes
Toomey's Collarettes are the finest available and they attach easily to our Black Neckband
Shirts. Collarettes are double sized 14-141/2, 15-151/2, 16-161/2, 17-171/2, 18-181/2,
19-191/2, 20-201/2, 22-221/2. Velcro Closure in Comfort Height
#2 (11/4") or Comfort Height #3 (11/2"). Designed to be worn with our #50
Comfort Collar and #1 Short Shank Button and #2 Long Shank Collar Button. Collars and
Buttons sold separately.
